This means that a specialist medical doctor, an anesthesiologist, will administer medications to you that send you to sleep, ensure that you are unaware of the surgery and do not move or feel pain during the surgery.
Anaesthesiologists are “peri-operative physicians”, meaning that they are focused on their patient’s well being and safety before, during and after surgery.
Your anesthesiologist will meet you a few weeks in advance to get to know you, to understand your medical history, to arrange any further pre-operative testing or treatments, and formulate a plan for the day of your surgery.
The anesthesiologist will administer a general anaesthetic to you and will be present in the theatre for the entire duration of your surgery, monitoring your physiology and tailoring the anaesthetic to your individual requirements.
The anesthesiologist is responsible for waking you from the anaesthetic, ensuring your safety and comfort while you recover in the Recovery Room, and will continue to be involved in your care in the High Care Unit.
Your anesthesiologist will be a specialist from the practice of Drs Jones, Bhagwan and Partners who has a special interest and training in bariatric anaesthesia.
